A New Year!

A banana nut muffin has never tasted so good and I was so glad to be back out again for a new year. Being the middle of February the day started off cold, windy, and very dreary. We headed out and things began to dry out and we even found some sun even if it didn't have much warmth and the wind and cold stayed with us. We headed inter-island and checked out Spieden Island which is one of my favorite spots to visit in the islands though today the island was a Wildlife Bonanza! On the island, we spotted a few stellar sea lions sunning, and further up the island, there were Mouflon Sheep, Fallow Deer, Sika Deer, and even a few Eagles on the ground. The real show though was in the water just next to the island though where there was a pair of stellar sea lions thrashing their lunch to pieces. Their lunch seemed to be a fish of some type they had caught. Always fun to watch this behavior as they rip the meat apart by biting and flinging it to tear it. After this show, we headed into Canada to follow a report of a grey whale. After extensive searching where it had been reported we headed out to see where it might have gone when it found us. We watched it for a moment but it was doing deeper dives and being anti-social so we headed off back home, but we rang the season in with a whale! I can't wait to see how the rest of the season turns out I've got big plans for this season!
