Part Two Take Two
With my legs stretched it was time to get back on to the boat since today I was doing a double header. The morning trip had taken us south, but for the afternoon trip we decided to go north in search of some reported Orcas. It did not take us long as we made our way around to the north side of Orcas Island near The Sisters Islands we found the T34’s and T37’s hanging out together moving along the shoreline. We got some amazing views of them with great photo backdrops as they moved across the island before moving into open water and splitting apart a bit. After breaking apart we got a surprise back to back breach from one member of the pod, though sadly I was pointed at the other half of the pod… After some good views we headed south to try intercepting the T137’s from this morning’s trip who had been traveling north. After a quick search we could not find them so we decided to swing by Deception Pass before heading back north again and try meeting back up with our T34 and 37 friends. We thought we might have lost them also but at the last moment they turned up split apart this time with some in the light of the setting sun and two putting on a great show once again close in to shore with aggressive movements and even a few tail slaps. We couldn’t tell but behavior looked preditious. With us already late to the docks we had to break away from the show and head out enjoying the beautiful sunset light and booming pink clouds as we tucked ourselves back into the harbor for the night. A fantastic (long) day out on the water!
